NZ South Island at a glance

Hello hello,

Here is the next chapter of our adventures.

Some pictures of Queenstown, nice city where we did a quick stop.

The next morning, it was so sunny, and we saw some neighbours with all ski equipments, so we decided: let's be crazy and do one day skiing!!

The snow was shit (end of season), but it was fun ;)  In New Zealand, they also have colors for the slopes, but we found the black ones easy, except you have some grass and trees to avoid...

Anyway, the best was the view on the lake behind!

After this nice (but super expensive) day, we headed to the glaciers. The road was 'work in progress' as some rocks fell from the cliff.. dangerous

Stop on the road

- Colorful sky at sunset time -

 - View on fox glacier - -

At Fox glacier town, we slept on our first 'nature' camp site in New Zealand (as before we wanted power to plug the heater.. glaglagla) and we decided to do a trek next to it.
4 hours walk through the beach, then the rainforest, the mud to reach the final point: The seal colony.

- On the way, Nicolas found gold rocks -

- The seals -

Then we went to 'Franz Joseph' glacier where you can take an helicopter to land and climb on the glacier! We went for the cheap option and did a walk to the start of the glacier...

- Franz Joseph glacier -

Back on the road, we followed the west coast and stopped at 'Pancakes rocks', interesting limestone formation ;)
Are you able to recognise all the characters on the rocks?

To end the South Island, we planned to do a big walk in the National Park 'Abel Tasman' where beaches landscapes are supposed to be awesome.
Unluckily for us, weather was bad (raining and windy), so we changed plans, booked a ferry for the next day to North Island and found a campsite for the last night in the South.

- The only hour of sun in the day, view from campsite -

-Rainbow the next morning -

- New zealander lambs -

And let's go to the North Island, immediate boarding!

Bye bye les amis
